Coal India records highest-ever monthly supplies at 70.3 MT in Oct, up 19%
Coal India has experienced a 49% cut in coal stocks over the last half-year. This notable decline comes amid a 7.6% surge in offtake, despite a 2.5% dip in production levels.

New Delhi: Public sector Coal India Limited (CIL) recorded its highest-ever monthly supplies at 70.3 million tonnes (MT), registering a robust 19% growth over the 59.2 MT supplied during the corresponding period in FY26, despite operational challenges posed by unseasonal rainfall, Puja festivities and the impact of a cyclone, amid rising power demand. The previous monthly record of 69.4 MT was achieved in March 2026, CIL said in a statement. Its subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Limited also crossed the 20 MT monthly supply mark for the first time in Oct.Responding to demand for additional coal from thermal power plants, CIL said it supplied a record 57.1 MT to the power sector, 19% higher than the 48 MT supplied in Oct FY26. On average, 310 rakes were loaded per day during Oct, the highest-ever, surpassing the previous record of 303 rakes a day achieved in March 2025.
